ORGANIZING TIPS FOR WORKING WOMEN: Organizing with Optimism
What can a baby teach us about getting us ready to be organized? Read this article to find out.
It’s disheartening to realize that the majority of working women I talk to about the organization in their life (or lack thereof) feel that there is no way out. They simply feel doomed to a life of clutter and confusion.
One weekend, I spoke at The Women’s Show on how to organize your business and home. I had a booth where attendees could sign up to win a half-day of my organizing services in their home or office.
Hundreds of women stopped by to check out what I had to offer. When I asked them to sign up for a chance to win the half-day of organizing, a good 75% said that they were beyond help and that a half-day wouldn’t even get me in the door. My response was that a chance to win was a chance worth taking – after all, you have to start somewhere – and what better way to start than with a Certified Professional Organizer®!
How awful that ANY woman really believes they have to live with such dread EVERY day.
In Chapter 6 of my book The Power of Simplicity, the title is “See it, say it, believe it…And it will come.” I would like to share parts of it with you.
“At birth, you were given two very important tools: visualization and self-talk. These are powerful natural partners, which means that you have to be careful with how you use them. The saying “Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it” is indicative of the power of visualization and self-talk.
I don't know about you, but the moment I decide to "see" something in my mind’s eye, it happens. This can produce both positive and negative outcomes to any situation. If I am golfing and I visualize my golf ball being consumed by the water between me and the green, nine out of ten times, that ball will find its way into the water. But, if I walk up to the same shot and only “see” the green where the ball will bounce once then roll towards the pin, the same “rule” applies. I don’t allow my mind’s eye to “see” the water as an option.
You become what you think. You actualize what you believe. Your brain doesn’t know truth from fiction, so it believes everything that you tell it. If you always say, “I am sick and tired of…”, my guess is that you are often sick and feel very tired.
Because visualization works, you have to be careful what you wish for or think about. If you think big, you get big! If you think garbage, you get garbage. If you don't want much, you won't get much. If you think positive, you get positive. It's that simple.”
You have a voice inside of you that is constantly talking. You have to listen to what that voice is saying so you can change the soundtrack. If you tell yourself that you are destined to be disorganized and there is no way out, you will be right. If you tell yourself that you CAN get out from under the clutter, visualize the results, and invest some time to DO the work, you will be right and it will happen.

If you find yourself in a whirlwind of clutter, I urge you to examine your visualization and self-talk. Optimism works. The power of positive thinking is real. This will work in every aspect of your life, but start by organizing with optimism!
