With an Ethernet ready desktop color laser printer, buyers have the option of using their device as a personal, single host PC unit, or sharing the printer across an office or home network. The Konica Minolta MagiColor 2430dl is the perfect choice for either setup, coming with conservative specifications that keep its price tag low but color print quality very high.
Though the Konica Minolta MagiColor 2430dl comes with very light duty specs, and therefore keeps costs low, it does offer expandability options in some areas for those who wish to spend the extra coin. For example, installed memory is 32 MBs, which should be sufficient for most text printing needs but, considering the unit can operate in full color, users will most likely want to take advantage of the hardware for some imagery, or at least for charts and graphs. With more complex print projects such as these, slowdown tends to occur, and more memory may be helpful. The 2430 allows for huge memory expansion of up to 544 MBs total, which should be plenty for any printing task.
Paper handling is also expandable, and comes with a standard tray capable of holding 200 sheets. Users can then purchase an additional 500 sheet capacity tray to increase the total paper storage up to a maximum of 700 sheets total. A manual feed slot is also incorporated into the front of the device for compatibility with special media types that cannot be used in the standard trays, such as company letterhead, index cards, and envelopes. Only single sheets at a time can be hand fed.
Network printing helps to keep households and offices connected, and makes the Konica Minolta MagiColor 2430dl, or any light duty color laser printer for that matter, a great option for offices that already have a heavy duty monochrome machine, but require the occasional use of color in small quantities. Other connectivity options are very simple, and include only a USB 2.0 port for direct connections.
For a desktop unit, the Konica Minolta MagiColor 2430dl is actually quite large and heavy, with dimensions of 13.4 in. x 19.8 in. 16.9 in. (W x D x H). Its weight is a solid 44 pounds, which is around 20 pounds lighter than the previous MagiColor model, the 2300, but is still fairly hefty.
PictBridge compatibility allows users to eliminate the need for a host PC altogether and connect the Konica Minolta MagiColor 2430dl directly to any digital camera that supports the function. Though the unit does not feature an LCD screen of its own, interfacing with cameras is still simple and user friendly. When printing pictures, buyers can count on what is actually incredibly good image quality, considering the device's product category, and both black and white and color images or text can be printed in up to 2400 x 600 dot per inch quality.
The Konica Minolta MagiColor 2430dl is a solid little unit that shows its age to a degree, but could be helpful when color printing is one's only requirement.
