Is there a baseball card collector in the house?
I am a single mother of an 8 yr old boy. He has recently took interest in collecting baseball cards. I have no clue on how to help him. I how downloaded "collection explorer" and a price guide from tuff stuff website. He bought 300 cards and I have organized them using the software. There is one column that is labeled "set." His this for his reference or were the cards made in sets? If so how do I know what set it is? Could someone please help me to get started on this journey? He has became an ebay junky trying to buy more. I know he is buying worthless items, but it is what he wants. I'm not going to stop him as longs as he doesn't ask for a lot of money. I would love to hear any suggestions you may have.
First, try to find a sports card shop in your area. Eventhough,
he likes looking on Ebay for his cards if you have a very good
card dealer in your town You and your son can learn from the dealer. Unfortunately, in todays market it has been very expensive for young kids to buy packs of baseball cards especially if they want to find something that has some value.
If he likes collecting certain players or a favorite team then ask your dealer for what they call "common cards" in the trade. These are cards that are made in mass quantities and should be very inexpensive. So he can still collect the players he wants without much expense. Remember that he should learn to collect because of the fun and not just the fact he may have something valuable. The golden rule of collecting is that something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. and you may never get back what you may have paid for it.
