Interesting Facts about the game of Blackjack

The game of blackjack is a very popular one not only in casinos but in many homes across the world as well. The rules are simple to understand and it can provide hours of entertainment for a few people or even larger groups as well to partake in all the action and excitement that it brings. There are variations in the rules depending on who is playing and the style but for the most part the game is understood by almost everyone.

Some History about Blackjack

The actual beginnings of blackjack cannot be pinpointed but some historians and individuals associated in the area do believe that the game was originally started in France roughly around the year 1700 although no one knows an exact year for sure. This fact is why people consider France to be the home turf of blackjack. 21 was the original name of the game and it is rooted in the French language phrase vingt-et-un which literally does translate to the same number. The actual name of the game was 21 up until the 1930's when, due to trying to attract more people, a black jack would gain a better payout. The payouts were not permanent but the name was popular and has stuck ever since then. It was actually illegal to play the game in the United States until 1939 when the state of Nevada legalized gambling.

Other Interesting Facts of Blackjack

Terminology in the blackjack world actually has roots in the history of baseball in the states. First base is located to the dealer's left while third base is on the other side to the dealer's right. The great Napoleon was a huge fan of the game and played it quite frequently especially when he ended up getting exiled to both St. Helena and Elba as well. Many people aren't aware that when it comes to playing the game that fewer decks will benefit them instead of the dealer. This helps them get a blackjack more often and doubling down is able to happen more frequently.

In San Diego, CA the Blackjack hall of fame can be found at the Barona Casino. An interesting fact is that all the players who get brought into the hall of fame are able to get free food, drinks, and room but cannot play at the tables that the casino has. Strategy for the game has been studied for quite a while and the book Beat the Dealer written by Edward O. Thorpe during the 1960's helped to and initially did start the concept of card counting for the game of blackjack. As a result of people reading the book and employing the strategies more people were able to win at the casinos. Due to this fact, different rules and variations of the game were invented. Team play was invented by a professor by the name of Al Franesco who, in turn, was able to successfully make millions of dollars along with the team who was composed of MIT students.

MS ACCESS: How do you create a form using a query/table, so that...(cont)?

I am trying to create a form in MS Access, so that you can "search" by a state, and it will auto populate information in various fields (12 different criteria). For example when you select California this info will also auto populate: > Population > Natural resources > Governor...I am intermediate at access...

in case your fields are located in ONE table then you could introduce a i.e combo box
containing all the states you have information about. In the after update event of the combo box you can update the i.e. record source of the form like this:

combo.setfocus
me.recordsource = "select * from YOURTABLENAME where state = '" + combo.text + "';"

You don't need to change anything else in case your general form data is derived from above query.
