Get Cheap Solar Panels By Building Your Own
The cost of building solar panels has come down in recent years, but they are still an expensive form of electricity. But you can get cheap solar panels if you build them yourself. If you know where to look, the components to build a solar panel don't have to be that expensive, and with a few common household tools, you can build them pretty easily.
To build a solar panel, you will need a soldering iron and some common tools. Most of the parts can be found at a hardware store, and some you might be able to find free that someone has and doesn't want, such as scraps from the manufacture of other products. With a little time and some effort, you can build any size panel you want or string several together to produce as many watts as you want.
With the high cost of retail solar equipment, it does not pay to go solar for most homes. The cost of sinking 20-30 thousand dollars into a solar energy system, would buy a lot of electricity from the power company before it ever paid off. Although for many, the thought of being energy independent and using clean renewable energy is worth the investment.
But when you build your own solar panels, you can get solar power for a fraction of the investment. Home made cheap solar equipment will still require some investment, but they can pay for themselves in just a few years. After that the energy they produce is all free. You can build yourself an asset that can bring in great returns in money that you don't have to throw away every month to the power company.
Solar panels are not the only way to use the sun's energy. There are other solar components that can be built cheap. Water heaters and space heaters are one of the most simple ways to use solar energy. If you are willing to put in some time learning and putting these things together, it can be very practical to provide much of your home's energy from solar with very little cost.
Your entire roof, if in a sunny location, can receive plenty of energy from the sun to power your home, and then some. If you are letting this energy go to waste year after year, it may be time to look into building your own cheap solar panels and other solar components.

exactly what size solar panel would it take to run a new single door fridge energy star fridge only.?
I'm interested in running only a new energy star single door fridge and need to know the info on solar to run only the fridge.
To measure the power consumption of an appliance I recomend using a Kill-a-Watt unit:

Once you know the usage of the fridge you can select an inverter and panels to meet that usage. If you have stable grid power I recommend grid tieing the inverter so you wont need batteries.
Just guessing the value for the fridge I would estimate:
**If on grid:
200w inverter with a 200W panel to run in the spring and early summer
- or -
400w inverter with two 200W panels to run year round.
**If off grid:
500W inverter with a 200W panel to run in the spring and early summer
- or -
500W inverter with two 200W panels to run in the spring and early summer
(Note that if your fridge is in a heated house you may need to have 3 or 4 panels during the winter)
