Review of the Xerox 4600 Printer
The Xerox 4600 is designed specifically for use in a small to medium sized office. At a speed of 52 ppm, it is superior to many other monochrome printers in its class when it comes to speed.
The printer is relatively large weighing in at approximately 76 pounds and the two tone blue and grey colour is pleasing to the eye, fitting into most work environments. The printer is physically easy to get set up and running and the software is easy to use and install. Installation is automated and the machine software is compatible with MAC, Windows and Linux operating systems. The user interface is easy and strait forward to use with a standard LED display to prompt users as to what is happening with the status of the printer.
An optional wireless adapter can be purchased to give the printer wireless capabilities so that it can be placed anywhere for wireless printing, but without it, it can still be networked with a small work group via Ethernet. The machine comes with two 550 sheet input trays as standard, but extra paper trays can be stacked high to increase the maximum paper capacity to an impressive 4,850 sheets . This means that more printing can be done without having to reload the trays with paper, saving time compared to other machines with less paper capacity. The machine automatically prints in duplex as standard which saves paper, is better for the environment and ultimately for the bottom line of most businesses. This setting can be changed if single sided prints are required. You can save even more paper by using a setting called N-up printing which allows you to print more than one page on just one sheet of paper, again helping you to minimise your costs and help the environment.
The security of this machine is pretty strong with hard disk encryption and support for IPv6 and IPSec. A clever feature prevents unauthorized people from viewing sensitive confidential documents by overwriting and removing data from the printer memory as required. Hard disk encryption allows for protection of any documents that need to be stored on the printer. The device also cleverly allows you to track the how it is used so that user groups can be set up and stored on the device, reports generated and the appropriate departments billed for usage as necessary.
The print resolution is reasonable at up to 1200x1200 Enhanced dpi Resolution producing good quality black and white prints of text and graphics. The standard toner cartridge that comes with it is good for 13,000 pages while the refill can last up to 30,000 pages making it a cost effective option for most offices. This makes for a pretty sturdy design which is built to last.
The standard memory for this printer is 256 MB, but this can be increased by purchasing a 160GB hard drive.
The DN and DT models of this machine support the highest Energy Star standards for energy saving and so are also energy efficient helping you to be kinder to the environment.
