The Advantages of Carbonless Paper
Carbonless paper presents many potential advantages for a wide range of businesses. Few business would be able to survive on a practical level without a ready supply to print orders and invoices, jot down contact details or carry out marketing functions. However, paper is a finite resource that's overuse has severe environmental impact. One such option for those wishing to reduce their carbon footprint and be kinder to the planet when it isn't practical to go paper free, is to switch to carbonless paper.
Carbonless paper and carbonless forms are above all, an alternative to traditional carbon paper that is both biodegradable and stain-free. It can be used to make a copy of an original document, whether handwritten or mechanically typed, without having to resort to electronics. Each sheet of carbonless paper is coated with a reactive clay or micro-encapsulated ink or dye, which is the basis behind its basic function. Micro-encapsulated dye coats the back of the first sheet, whilst on the top surface of the lowermost sheet is a coating of clay that rapidly reacts with the dye, forming a permanent mark in the process. Intermediate sheets of carbonless paper can also be used that have dye on the bottom and a coating of clay on the top.
The way these sheets of carbonless paper then work is that when somebody writes on them, the pressure that is exerted at a certain point by the writing instrument leads to the micro-capsules breaking and spilling their dye. The miniscule size of these capsules means that the print that results is highly accurate. Unlike carbon paper, carbonless paper avoids the need for a "throwaway sheet" for copying, with the sheets themselves producing highly precise and legible 2 part, 3 part and 4 part copies. Indeed, carbonless paper is environmentally friendly and cost-effective given that it can be used by businesses to create multiple copies, thereby reducing printing and photocopying and the energy use and emissions that are associated with them.
Indeed, one of the big advantages of carbonless paper is the opportunity that it presents to your company to show its social responsibility. With paper being such a key contributor to pollution, many customers are increasingly choosing to deal with firms that use more environmentally friendly alternatives. The air and waterways are both polluted by paper manufacturing, whilst massive amounts of energy are also consumed by it. These effects are alleviated by the environmentally friendly type of paper that is carbonless paper, which is a genuinely viable substitute to carbon paper.
Carbon paper is not as environmentally friendly for numerous reasons. Firstly, it emits toxic carbon into the ground when it is in landfills. Secondly, the "extra sheet" of ultimately redundant carbon paper that the copying process requires leads to it taking up almost twice the space of its carbonless counterpart. Indeed, that harmful carbon sheet is not required at all by carbonless paper.
Finally, carbonless paper also has a wide range of applications within your business. It can be used for seemingly everything from notepads to forms, including full color forms and custom carbonless forms, in addition to blank carbonless paper in various sizes for whatever purpose that you may have in mind. Examples of the latter may include digital carbonless paper, which has been specifically designed for the printing of business forms with laser printers and copiers.

It's like this sheet of paper that's black on one side, and if you put it between two sheets of paper and then write on the top paper, it makes a copy.

It's carbon copy paper, or, oddly enough, also called carbonless copy paper. It's not always black, either.
You can get it at many large office supply stores, like Staples, but be aware that it's kind of expensive. I saw a pack of 100 for almost $20.
