Help with my pet rats please?
I have four rats..filburt,rocko,doug,and baine, they become bored easily no matter what i do, ive built them club houses tunnels etc, everything that websites and friends have suggested. filburt is about 6 months old rocko is 5 doug and baine are the same age of 3 months, two are highly social and the other two just sleep all night and day, (baine and rocko) theyve been vet checked and are in good health. i recently built a large play house made of a rubbermaid shelf that i saw on a website (it has ways of breathing) they just dont seem interested in anything from simple games to mazes, they give up and sleep or pace. i dont have room in my house for free roam but they are out on my bed and couch for hours a day. if anybody know anything i could do please help and thank you
It sounds as though you are doing all the right things. With rats, it is important to remember that rats tend to spend quite a bit of time sleeping, and about a third of their lives grooming!
Make sure you give them plenty of things to play with, especially things they can chew on or move around. Treats hidden in things where they need to think and manipulate objects are a good idea
But really, it sounds like they're not bored, they're just not interested. Rat boys tend to be notoriously lazy, and every rat is different in their energy levels. It may be that the lazy two aren't bored but just like sleeping.
