6 Features of Quartet Whiteboards

Chalkboard vs Whiteboard: What to buy?

I want to put either a chalkboard or a whiteboard in my bedroom where I have white tile flooring. I am a college chemistry major and would like to use a board as an alternative to paper and pencil when studying science/mathematics.

Chalk dust is actually harmful to your computer. And breathing it is a pain. Also, a chalkboard is much more expensive than a whiteboard.

Don't spend $200 for a whiteboard from Office Depot or any place like that. You can buy the material for a whiteboard at Lowe's or Home Depot for much cheaper.

You can buy a 4x8 feet sheet of whiteboard material for about $15 - $20. Just drill a few small holes in the board where you want the nails or screws to go. I just nail the board directly to my wall. This ensures that the board does not develop wrinkles.

To clean them, I recommend Kaboom spray. It doesn't take the sheen off of the board. Using acetone based cleaners really cuts down the life of the board. I've had some boards (purchased at Home Depot) and used Kaboom to keep them clean, and they have lasted nearly ten years and are still in great condition.

Sometimes, a green or red marker that stays on the board for a few days doesn't come off with Kaboom. In that case, just rub the offensive spot with a black dry erase marker, and wipe with a paper towel. Black dry erase will also erase permanent marker (sharpie) from a white board if you use the dry erase marker to scrub it.
