My gelding didn't come with very detailed papers; they say he is a "Quarter Type," but I'm 95% sure he is a Rocky Mountain Horse. He was born in 1989 and has been in Arizona for most (if not all) of his life. I've owned him for nearly 7 years and have yet to find any information about his brand (as far as I can tell it isn't registered). Any insight would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

EDIT: I have never seen a branding like that before. I'm in New Zealand and the only brands i have seen or ever heard of are neck and shoulder branding. Standardbreds get branded on their neck, and Thoroughbreds get branded on their shoulders. However some choose to get their horses branded on their shoulders for identification purposes.
"On the off shoulder, two numerical brands, one beneath the other. The bottom number is the last digit of the year in which the foal was born. The top number indicates the individual horse registered by the cipher brand owner in that particular year. So, for instance, a horse carrying the numerical brands 28 over 5 was Horse No. 28 branded by the cipher brand owner in the year 1985, 1995 or 2005. It's usually not too difficult (with the help of a vet if necessary), to determine if a horse was born in 1985, 1995 or 2005."
So since your horse was born in 89, this entire branding doesn't make sense as the second number on the top would have to be '9'. My guess is that this is a personal brand by a previous owner as identification in a case of theft. As i'm sure you can see, this brand would be hard to miss.
