A Padding Press is used to bind loose pieces of paper together on one end with adhesive. You can see pads of paper created with padding presses all over the place; the yellow note pads popular in businesses, stationary, and more. Stacks of paper are placed in a large vice and are clamped into place. While in the padding machine, padding compound (glue) is applied by hand using a padding brush to the back edge of the paper stack. Once the bind is dry, the stack of paper is removed and can be cut down to size.

This just popped into my head. A few times I was running low so I kept a pad on but stuck a wad of toilet paper (that I folded nicely a few times so it would be comfortable) on top of it so I wouldn't get an irritation from the pad.
