Will my stone veneer stay up?
Last night I restacked and mortared my large sandstone fireplace surround back up on the wall after it fell off remodeling. I securely attached wire mesh to the brick behind it and then mixed up type S mortar and proceeded to stack. I have done brick a couple times before and those immitation stones over a strach coat but never this size sand stones. once i got to the top and set the 100 pound stone mantle with mortar the hole stone wall seemed like it wanted to fall over. i braced it up and its been sitting to dry, but ...Will it stay up securely once it dries and i remove the bracing or will i have to worry about it falling on one of my kids?
I will not advise anybody to go near it, let alone my family.
