Lanier 5613 – Digital Multifunctional Device
With an extremely small footprint, the Lanier 5613 is one of the most manageable multifunctional units out there. Other than its impressive size, however, there isn't a whole lot that the device does well. As a multifunctional center, the Lanier 5613 is lukewarm in almost all performance categories, and is outstanding in none.
With laser beam scanning and electrophotographic printing, the Lanier 5613 holds its own as far as quality copies, but it operates at a maximum copy speed of only 13 pages per minute, making high volume printing very tedious. Its first copy time of only 8 seconds is acceptable, and should prove to make single page copying fairly painless. Standard random access memory is only 8 MBs for the printer, but a single expansion slot allows users to upgrade up to 32 MBs for faster print times when dealing with imagery and complex print and copy tasks.
Standard paper storage capacities are 250 sheets via a letter / legal sized tray and 100 additional sheets via a multipurpose bypass tray. Reductions and enlargements can be made in ratios of 50 to 200% in single percent increments, which can be helpful for cutting back on overall paper usage, and is accessible via a convenient dedicated control panel.
With dimensions of 18.4 in. x 17.7 in. x 14.6 in. (W x D x H), the Lanier 5613 is very petite for a four in one device, while its weight of only 44 pounds makes it one of the lighter MFCs available. Still, these figures can be written off by the unit's lack of power, and thus the device should really only be considered for light home usage, as the Lanier 5613 could not hold its own in an office setting.
The Lanier 5613, though very limited, is not without a small amount of special features such as automatic image density and auto tray switching. Automatic tray switching can be key when dealing with multiple media types such as letter and legal sized paper, but the unit can only use the feature when an additional paper tray is incorporated into its hardware.
A single 500 sheet paper bank is available for separate purchase and can save countless hours of work when multiple media types are a must. The only other expandability options the device offers are a system stand and a 30 sheet automatic document feeder. The ADF is ideal for speeding through multiple pages of input.
2 in 1 combining is made possible by digital data storage, while electronic sorting functions are only activated when the optional 32 MBs of memory are activated. 10 user codes can be programmed for security and a scan one / print many feature allows for multiple copies from a single source. The Lanier 5613F model comes with faxing included, while the base Lanier 5613 does not. Both models come equipped with scanning which can be executed at an admirable speed of only 2.4 seconds per scan. Still, as an aging MFC, the Lanier 5613 is probably not worth your time.
