Choosing The Right 3 Ring Binder For Your Needs
Three-ring binders are an easy and attractive way to present your documents, as well as store them for future use. However, with so many different makes and models available, it can be difficult to choose the right one. This quick guide to 3-ring binders will fill you in on what's out there so you can select the right one for your project.
1.) Ring type. There are two types of rings available: round and D-shaped. Round-ring notebooks are good if your document is on the short side. D-ring books are much better for thicker documents. That's because the shape of the rings make it much easier to turn the pages, as well as add or remove pages and tabs.
2.) Thickness and size. Binders are available in several thicknesses, with some manufacturers making ones that are up to 5 or even 6 inches thick. Obviously, the longer your document is, the bigger your notebook should be, so choose accordingly. (If you prefer D-ring models, you're more likely to find these in the larger sizes. If that's the case, you may want to use a larger D-ring book to store several smaller documents.) Also, most notebooks are designed to house letter-sized paper (8.5" x 11"). However, there are some specialty products that can be used for legal- and A4-sized documents.
3.) Color. Remember when you went shopping for school supplies as a kid and how many different colors of binders there were? As an adult, you'll be pleased to know that there are still some great colors available in addition to the standard black, white, and navy blue. Depending on your document, you can use a notebook that's purple, turquoise, or orange. Just make sure the color you choose is congruent with the message you're trying to send.
4.) Overlay, document pouches, and label inserts. A lot of notebooks have clear overlays so you can insert your own customized title page. These are absolutely perfect for when you need to give a presentation, whether it's to your colleagues or a potential new client. Also, many notebooks have document pouches inside for you to store additional papers, and the better quality ones also have a label insert on the spine so you can quickly identify which book you're looking at. These are all great features to have because they allow customization. However, if you just need something basic, there are a number of plain vinyl products on the market that lack all these extras.
5.) Specialty binders. Finally, specialty binders are perfect for when you need a notebook with a little something extra. There are hanging file books that can be easily stored in a file cabinet and keep all of your important papers in one place. Easel notebooks are great not just for presentations, but also for guest logs, marketing efforts, and displaying photographs.
