National Institute of Design (NID)
The National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad is hailed globally as a multi-disciplinary institute with high credibility in the area of design education and research. The institute, established under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is also recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) under the authority of Ministry of Science and Technology as an industrial design research institute. The NID has also started IT-integrated design courses at the novel campus in Gandhinagar.
Courses: The institute offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
• Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) under 3 faculty streams like industrial design, communication design, and textile and apparel design.
• Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (PGDPD) under 5 faculty streams like industrial design, textile and apparel design, communication design, IT-integrated design, and interdisciplinary design studies. You can pursue this course in any of the 14 design disciplines.
Duration: While GDPD is a 4-year intensive undergraduate programme, PGDPD runs from 2 years to 2 and half years.
National Institute of Fashion Technology
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is one of the premier institutes in India. Established in the year 1986, it was formed under the endorsement and guidance of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Beginning its operations in New Delhi, it has now campuses in cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Mumbai, Patna, Shillong and many more.
Courses: NIFT offers undergraduate, certificate and postgraduate courses.
• Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in fashion design, leather design, accessory design, textile design, knitwear design and fashion communication.
• Master of Design (M.Des)
• Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M)
• Master of Fashion Technology (M.FTech)
Duration: While B.Des is 4-year program, various certificate courses have duration of 1 year, 6 months, 4 months or 3 months. Master level programs are of 2 years.
Pearl Academy of Fashion
Pearl Academy of Fashion, established in 1994, is the premiere institution for fashion, design and management. Promoted by the Pearl Global Limited, the institute has tied up with a number of foreign universities, including Nottingham Trent University. It also offers a regular programme in association with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Pearl Academy of Fashion is being run from 3 centres in Delhi, Chennai and Jaipur.

Duration: While BA (Hons.) is a 4-year program, IGNOU programmes run for 3 years. All postgraduate programs are of 2 years.
Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology
Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology is a unique art and design institute in Bengaluru with strong emphasis on experimentation and teaching. Founded in 1966, it boasts Centre for Education Research, Training and Development (CERTAD) and Centre for Experimental Media Arts (CEMA).
Courses: The institute offers undergraduate as well as postgraduate diploma programs.
• Undergraduate Professional Diploma in communication design and industrial design.
• Advanced diploma in experimental media arts, animation and gaming, and art and design for education.
Duration: While the undergraduate professional diploma is of 4 years, the Advanced Diploma is a 2-year program.
