How To Make Labels Look Like Web 2.0 Designs
Want to make those color labels look like those web 2.0 designs? It is easy really! All you have to do is to customize several aspects of your original designs for label printing. Let me help you get started by telling you about the five main elements that you need to change to make your color labels look like they are "web 2.0". So read well and apply all the tips below into your own custom label designs.
• Use cuter, stylistic fonts – A mark of a web 2.0 design is its cute and stylistic fonts. Gone are the hard edged fonts or the old style print fonts. Most of these trendy websites use web 2.0 fonts that look quite sleek, stylish and yet not too complex or intricate. To adapt 2.0 themes to your labels, you will want to use these same fonts.
Luckily for you, there are plenty of free web 2.0 fonts that you can adapt easily for your printing. Just search for them in font database websites like dafont.com or urbanfonts.com. These and many other font websites provide categories where you can find web 2.0 fonts easily for free use on your color labels. Just pick the right one that you can use for your theme.
• Use rounder, softer borders – After the fonts, you should then focus on the label borders. Most web 2.0 sites have done away with those hard edged borders and instead are now using rounder softer borders to add that sleek and smooth look. It is best to adapt these same concepts in your label borders. Add rounded corned into your designs and when possible use more curves and styles for some of the straighter parts in those borders. These softer borders should add a more dynamic and trendy look that many people will like in your custom labels.
• Make images and graphics cuter and softer – Your label images will also be needing some changes. Most web 2.0 images are actually softer, cuter and more enhanced. So if you have old style logos, cartoons, graphics or even pictures, you will probably want to redo all them from scratch. It is important to move away from those hard edged graphics, and go for curvier, cuter and softer designs. Just look at the logos of Twitter, Youtube and Facebook to see some examples. These use either rounder text, or rounder symbolic elements that are cuter to establish that web 2.0 theme. Use the same in your label printing.
• Use lots of lighter, brighter colors – Of course, you will also need to rethink your colors for your labels as well. Web 2.0 themes will often use brighter or more vivid colors. So you will need to make the colors of your background, your text and the other elements of your custom labels to a brighter color. Most design applications should be able to help you with this so do not worry. If all else fails though, just try to replace the colors with newer brighter ones.
• Add that gleam into your label printing – Finally, to add that gleam or gloss in the design which is common in web 2.0 sites, you will want to do some specialized label printing. Ask your label printing company if they can print your color labels using glossy type paper materials and inks. With these special glossy materials, the light will reflect a bit in your label prints, adding that special expensive looking gloss effect. This will decidedly complement your color labels, making the web 2.0 style complete.
