How can I improve my on the spot writing skills?
I can write essays fine when given enough time to work on it, but when I'm writing on the spot I kind of freeze and it takes longer for ideas to pop up in my head...are there any ways I can improve my on the spot writing?
I try to create a quick outline right away. I know you said you have problems with time, but the truth is organization is an extremely useful expedient in writing and its often worth the time. Next I try to prepare as much about the topic of the piece before I go in to write the essay. This assumes you have some idea of the topic such as a theme, a book or a time period. In a school setting you almost always have some idea of the topic and should do outside research before sitting down to write. Last, it is obvious but practice helps. Just getting used to writing will make it easier and ideas will begin to pop into your head as you write.
