Fans of fountain pen will always love it. They are never growing to drop it for ballpoint, roller balls or gel pens. Fountain pen has an eloquence which is just unmatched by its any other cousin. Writing with it is charming, and that has kept it in stead with other pens. When people were talking about it getting obsolete, it is still available in every price range.
Apart from eloquence, fountain pens are loved for several other attributes associated with them like comfort, legibility and low cost. With fountain pens, one can write with light pressure. It is quite less tiring than a rollerball or ballpoint pen. Then comes legibility. Fountain pens give your writing an elegance, which is far from any other pen. If you just have a good hand, your letters will appear like pearls. They are low cost too, compared to other quality pens. Although they might seem a bit expensive, they are cost effective when their useful life is taken into consideration.
In case you haven't used a fountain pen yet, employing it is as simple as using any other ink pen. You just have to learn how to put ink in it. For this, you just have to determine what type of refill unit your pen needs. A few fountain pens have a converter, others a bladder and some have a simple cartridge. For converter based pen, just dip the converter into liquid ink and use the screw-type top to fill it. Inject it into the pen and keep using. For pens with nip, douse the nip into the ink. Truck the ink into the bladder with the tiny bar. In cartridge pens, you just have to replace the cartridge.
If you are an owner of fountain pen, you must also know to clean and repair it. For cleaning a fountain pen, just flush it with water. If an unused nib has become clogged with dry ink, soak it in water. But be careful with the old pens which are not waterproof. You could also add some ammonia or liquid detergent to the water. This would make the process faster. Fountain pen users often need to increase the ink flow. If ink flow is not usual, and cleaning does not help get rid of the problem, try inserting a sharp object like razor between the two tines of the nib. Be careful while doing it and withdraw it equally carefully. Any change would be invisible but when you sit down to write with the pen, it will work fine.
You should also know how to polish a high-quality nib and smoothen a scratchy one. For evening out a high quality nib, write on construction paper, kraft paper, or a legal pad cardboard. Don't worry, it would not harm your pen. Scratchy pens have one of their tines bent up or down relative to the other. You can smoothen it by writing a few words on sandpaper. However, be careful now to do this with a high quality pen, or it would be ruined. If you are quite fond of a pen which cannot be filled, there is a 1way out. Just use as dip pen. It would go on serving you like that for many more years.

I got a visa card in the mail today and i had to activate it online. and the instructions online said 'sign your signature on the back of the card immediately with a ballpoint pen'. i got a ballpoint pen and all the ballpoint pens in the house worked fine .. just not on the card. and now there are lines all over the place where i write my signature... is there anything i can use to remove the pen off my card? any chemicals that wont destroy my card?

Before you try chemicals, Call the company and tell them your card came damaged in the mail, the envelope was man-handled and you'd like a Replacement, usually you can get one free of cost, but it may take upto a week to receive it.
Once you get it, use a felt tipped pen/OHP marker/cd-marker.
