What Can a Cherry Picker Be Used for?
Cherry pickers are a type of areal work platform - in fact they're one of the most popular types of aerial work platforms and can be used in a variety of different scenarios and situations.
To give you a bit of context, let's start at the beginning; this will help understand where these areal work platforms got their name from and what they actually used for.
Imagine working in a fruit orchard with crops growing on trees 10, 15 or 30 feet high; now imagine trying to pick those fruits at that height. Not ideal right? Well, that's what fruit pickers thought, so they came up with an aerial lift platform to reach better access to those high trees - hence cherry pickers (although they are used in all sorts of orchards).
From here, you get a good understanding that the basic premise of these types of areal work platforms is to gain better access to those high and hard to reach places. So, what are these types of hard to reach places?
Well, that's the beauty of them; there's no limit to the different jobs they are used for. Any kind of scenario where you would need incredibly high access, cherry pickers are the perfect solution. Utility poles hosting telephone, television or any kind of electrical wires and equipment would require an engineer if they break or need fixing. In this case, an areal work platform would be needed to gain access.
Think indoors as well; any building with high ceilings such as warehouses or sports halls would need to use a cherry picker to fix any kind of issue with ceilings or electrical problems. Likewise a cherry picker would give a workman access to the top of a building from the outside so they could inspect roofs, chimneys or gutters for example.
Public services such as the fire brigade also use cherry pickers for a variety of different scenarios. This is used instead of a ladder to reach high access to put of fires, or save people from tall buildings and structures.
Window cleaners, decorators, engineers and workers in construction also benefit from the use of a cherry picker thanks to its unrivalled access to high structures.
Have you ever wondered how the Christmas lights of your local city, town or village get put up? Despite the fact they always seem to go up early, it seems as though one day they just magically appear. Well cherry pickers are used by council and local authority workers to put these up. In this respect, cherry pickers are also used to put up banners and advertising hoardings.
Finally, these types of lift are used in the entertainment industry as well. Some of the greatest television programmes, films and music videos use them to shoot those amazingly high shots of sets and beyond. Even during gigs and live performances, artists would often place themselves within this type of areal work platform to wow crowds with great effect.
The versatility of these types of lifts makes them all the more impressive - this is even thought of when hiring them. You may think of a cherry picker as a large cumbersome piece of machinery. Well most can actually fit through doorways and leave very small footprints, so they can be used in places and buildings that require minimal lasting tyre prints, such as shopping malls or historic buildings.
Different cherry pickers come with various features that suit any job. For example, you can hire some that are drivable when elevated and some offer extra elevation for those situations where you need that little bit more height. Finally, with battery powered lifts, you can be rest assured that your job isn't causing you or your company a large carbon footprint. This way it makes perfect sense to hire a cherry picker.

How high should I let my cherry tree grow?
Standing on the top of my 8 foot ladder, I still can't reach the top of my Cherry tree. Is it a good idea to trim the top of the Cherry tree so I can actually reach the cherries?
Sounds a bit tall. If you can't reach it from a 6' ladder then prune this winter. Take it to 8' and try to start a second trunk about waist high.
