For this series of articles, we will be discussing the following hair removal systems:

Part 1 - Needle Electrolysis Hair Removal System
Electrolysis is an invasive method of hair removal and is quite painful. The procedure involves inserting a needle into the hair follicle and a current is released through the needle. To begin the treatment, the area to be treated will be cleansed. If needed, there is a numbing cream that is applied to the area prior to treatment. Then, while the practitioner is looking through a magnifying lamp, a needle is inserted into the follicle and the current is let out. The hair will be pulled out using a pair of tweezers. Depending upon the area being treated, this procedure will take a long time as electrolysis requires each hair follicle to be treated separately.
Needle electrolysis hair removal can be done on any area of the body but of course, it depends on each person's pain threshold as different parts of the body have got different sensitivity towards pain. Most people, generally, have upper lip, eyebrows and underarms done.
Electrolysis hair removal is suitable to all skin types however, black and Asian skins should be dealt with carefully because the hair follicle is only a dip in the skin. People with curly hair would be hard to deal with because the follicle is not straight dip in the skin and has a curve at the end. When the needle is inserted, instead of going to the base of the hair follicle, where the hair root is, if it's angled slightly, it will go through the wall of the follicle, therefore puncturing it and causing a bleed. This would result in a scab and the scab will then result in scarring or pigmentation.
What are the advantages of electrolysis hair removal?
The main advantage of needle electrolysis is that it is permanent, over a period of time. It does take a long time to get results but it is definitely a permanent one. The time to achieve result would be different from person to person.
What are the disadvantages of electrolysis?
Before going through electrolysis hair removal, be aware of the following disadvantages of the procedure:
- It is painful.
- It is invasive.
- Cannot treat a very large area in a single session so treatment would take a long time.
- Can cause scarring or pigmentation.
- Treatment is performed by experienced practitioner. You have to go to a clinic to have your treatment.
- It is expensive. Treatment is usually on a per hour basis so treatment cost would add up eventually.
Needle electrolysis can be an option if you want to permanently remove those unwanted hair. However, it is prudent and wise to consider the disadvantages this system has before undergoing this method of removing unwanted hair.
This is the end of Part 1 and we will have a look at another type of hair removal system in Part 2 - Waxing and Shaving.
