Alright, some good brands are Yamaha, Mapex, Gretsch (if you like jazz, they have lots of compact jazz setups), and Tama. I would go with a basic rock kit. They are better to learn on, and are the standard drums most people start on. The main difference between fusion and rock is drum sizes. Fusion usually has a smaller bass drum, and smaller/odd size toms. A rock kit is definately the way to go. I have a Yamaha set, and it is a really good, solid set. I love it. If you think you wanna get into it serious, spend the extra money and get a good $500-700 set. There are also sets out there, if you're not sure, for $200-300 that are just fine to learn on.
