How do I create a daily log in Word?
A long while ago I read something about creating a daily log in Microsoft word. It would automatically date it each time you opened the document.
The key was starting the document with something like ".log"
Does anyone know anything about this?
There are several ways you can accomplish this, but knowing more about what you want the file to record would be helpful.
For example, if you are wanting to record when anyone opens a file, creating a macro that would insert current date/time when the file was opened would work.
If you are wanting to create a journal-type of file, do this:
1) Open Word
2) Open or create your journal/log file (the ".log" is irrelevant)
3) Move to the insertion point (where you want the date/time to appear)
4) Click "Insert" on the main toolbar
5) Click the "Field" option
6) Change "Category" to the "Date and Time" option
7) Select the date/time format you want to use or input a custom format (e.g. "M/d/yyyy h:mm:ss am/pm")
Click the "OK" button
However, this will require that you manually insert the appropriate field -- and I'm not sure that's what you want to do.
The ".log" file extension is usually an ASCII text file that a system/program uses.
