Rotary Club Of Madras Perungudi Expands Their Awareness Campaign ‘Give Way To Ambulance’ Across The City

Rotary Club of Madras Perungudi expands their awareness campaign ‘Give way to ambulance’ across the city

To partner with city traffic police and healthcare institutions in launching slew of initiatives to increase mass awareness

The annual campaign to kick start with Walkathon on Feb 20th

Chennai, February 16, 2010:  Rotary Club of Madras Perungudi (RCMP) today announced a major expansion of its two year old and successful awareness campaign- ‘Give way to ambulance’ and launched a slew of new initiatives to increase mass awareness for the issue across the city. As the first critical step the club would work closely with the city traffic police to avoid ambulance delays, particularly during peak traffic hours.  RCMP also aims to partner hospitals and healthcare associations in the city to launch new initiatives this year with the aim of addressing this issue more effectively.

The expansion of the programme is being undertaken in the wake of some disturbing/hard hitting data attained by the club, which reveals that in Chennai alone over 20,000 lives can be saved and further injury avoided if ambulances could avoid the heavy city traffic and reach hospitals faster.  The ‘Give way to Ambulance’ programme aims to significantly reduce this fatality and save at least 95% of these lives by 2015.

To mark the beginning of the year long campaign, the club will organize a walkathon on February 20th that would witness over 300 participants from the corporate sector, school and college students, along with city’s eminent professionals pledge for involvement and action. The walkathon will be flagged off at 9:30 AM from Labor Statue near Marina Beach and pass through the Gandhi Statue to Queen Mary’s college auditorium

ü  More than 300 Ambulances in the city make at least 3-4 trips everyday and transport over 1200-1500 patients.

ü  500 patients have to reach the hospital within the golden hour. At least 50-60 of them reach the hospital beyond the golden hour (which results in serious irreversible damages).

ü  More than 20, 000 damages in a year in Chennai alone, due to ambulance delays, let alone the whole country.

ü  The number of cases which are affected because of Ambulance delay in a year could easily cross 1 lakh.

Addressing media on the occasion, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Shakeel Akhter (IPS) said, “With the rising traffic in the city, ambulances face a serious issue of being able to cater to emergencies and reach on time. It is a herculean task today to control traffic and make way for the ambulance even for the traffic police. However, the common message to the drivers whenever they hear an ambulance siren from a distance is to go immediately to their left and halt, allowing the ambulance to pass. It will take just 2-3 minutes of time but can save a life that is on the way to a hospital.  The city traffic police department will work closely with RCMP to ensure that this issue is given higher priority and is handled more aggressively.”

Rtn Selvanathan, President, RCMP said, “It is shocking but true that over 20,000 lives can be saved in Chennai if only ambulances could get way in the heavy city traffic and commute faster. The last two years of driving the campaign and our initial ground work and surveys indicate that on an average 50-60 people in Chennai are impacted everyday because of ambulance delays. The club’s initial success has given us the confidence to extend the programme with regular initiatives throughout the year and across the city to raise public awareness and corporate participation in the campaign, which we firmly believe addresses a key issue. We thank the city traffic police department and Star Health Insurance, our campaign sponsor for the immense support they have lent us and their interest in supporting the cause.”

Explaining the new and increased focus of the campaign, Rtn Dr. V. Veerappan, Project Chairman, RCMP said “We have had a successful start to the ‘Give way to ambulance’ campaign in the last two years and we have studied the issue more closely to come up with workable solutions that address the on-ground issue. With traffic in the city only increasing by the day, we believe the time is right to increase mass awareness and expand our initiatives under the campaign. RCMP will undertake various new initiatives this year under this project such as partnering with the city hospitals to ensure that their ambulances come under this initiative and seeking support of eminent professionals and celebrities in the city to reach out to the mass.”

Unveiling the new mnemonic, V. Jagannathan, CMD, Star Health and Allied Insurance, the main campaign sponsor said, “We are proud to contribute and get associated with this noble cause. We will support RCMP to organize some key initiatives this year that helps address the issue more effectively.”

Xavier Prabhu, CEO, PRHUB, campaign partner said, “Consistent and good communication is a key to involve public participation and raise awareness of such critical issues. As an integrated communications firm we are glad we have associated with Rotary Perungudi in taking this message to the public in a manner that induces their interest and appeals for action. We will work closely with them in deploying multiple tools to reach out to the mass. We thank RCMP for this opportunity.”

Who will save America from Obama, George Soros, ACORN, the ACLU, the Democrats, the liberals, the socialists?

, the abortionists, the sodomites, the civil liberties absolutists, the atheists, the pagans, the Muslims, the feminists, the gypsies, the RAND corporation, the environmentalists, public education, the Rotary Club, the Freemasons, the climatologists, the non-birthers, the "We did land on the Moon, you IDIOT" fanatics, and Harry Potter?

It looks like the shining star of Obama is beginning to fade. The American people are catching on to what this guy is all about. His policies, ideas and the people he surrounds himself with are beginning to be exposed as anti-American, anti-Capitalist ideas and people. Those that voted for him - for that ever promised “hope and change” are now hoping that he keeps his “change”. After 14 months or so in office, the American taxpayers are beginning to really get to know Barack Hussein Obama.

“We the People” now know that his ideas towards the economy and good ole’ Capitalism are ones of total government control - total government ownership - Socialism, Fascism and Marxism. He wants to destroy the free market and redistribute Americas income from those that have to those that currently do not. He will do this in the form of taxes aimed at the rich and middle class - THIS WILL OCCUR - unless we stop him and Congress. o_O
