Box 2D plus Corona a Winner for Game Developers
Creating exciting video games just got a lot easier with Box2D. This is a free open source 2-dimensional physics simulator engine written by Erin Catto in C++ and published under the zlib license. Developers have been busy creating fun, amazingly cool games with it like Fantastic Contraption, Incredibots, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Transformice, Rolando, Angry Birds, and many more online Flash games. Games for the iPhone, iPad and Android based devices are also being developed using the Corona framework.
With Corona, adding physics to a game just got a lot easier. Even if you've never worked with a physics engine before, this new marriage of the Corona framework and Box2D makes it simple. The underlying engine is built around the Box2D but the Corona SDK takes a whole different design approach that eliminates most of the coding traditionally needed.
Back in 2006, Box2D was released as "Box2D Lite", a demonstration engine that would accompany a physics presentation given by Erin Catto at GDC. Then on September 11, 2007, Box 2D it was released as open source on Sourceforge. By 2010 the project was moved to Google Code for hosting.
By March of 2008, version 2.0 was ready to launch. This version was greatly upgraded and introduced continuous collision detection. The API was also modified. With major modifications like these, it wasn't long until the Corona team took note of the Box2D engine with the intent to use it as a base for game development.
The Corona SDK, coupled with the Box2D now offers some fairly amazing features for both Physics and Collision application development:

Now the use of gaming features like sprite sheets, Box2D physics, Facebook Connect, and OpenFeint social gaming is a simple matter for Corona. In addition to that, Corona games run at native speeds, causing them to significantly outperform apps developed in web-based technologies like Adobe Flash or Appcelerator Titanium. It's a marriage made in heaven.
With physics and collision based games on the rise for both android application development as well as iOS Development, engines like the Box2D can provide the powerful and effective mobile development tools needed to produce excellent games for the future.
