Understanding Ghs – The Globally Harmonized System For Chemicals' Classification And Labeling
Chemicals come across different stages and different people right from their production to handling and from transport to use. Considering the risks associated with chemicals, it becomes imperative for all these people to follow safety norms with utmost discipline. All countries and, so, the companies in those countries do follow safety norms and regulations. However, many countries have their own standards and that may not be in close match to that of other countries (where the product might be sold!), thus affecting the safety, health and business interests of the multiple parties involved. Hence, the need arose for a single uniform system that can eliminate the multiple system confusion.
How did it all start?
The declaration in the 1992 Rio Conference on Environment and development stated – "A globally harmonized hazard classification and compatible labeling system, including material safety data sheets and easily understandable symbols, should be available if feasible, by the year 2000" kick-started into what the world now knows as GHS.
What exactly is GHS?
GHS or Globally Harmonized System of classification and labeling of chemicals is a system, which is set to replace the different standards of labeling and classification that is being used in different countries across the globe. GHS involves the defining and classification of hazards in chemicals and communicating the information on hazards through labels and SDS i.e. safety data sheets. It covers all hazardous chemicals including the products, mixtures, preparations, substances and so on.
GHS should not be mistaken with an enforced regulation or standard. It's the discretion of a company in a country to be compliant with the GHS, but the companies that aren't GHS-compliant will face some hindrance while doing business internationally, especially with countries that are GHS-compliant. All in all, GHS can be summarized as a document of guidance that establishes lucid criteria and methods for classification of hazards and communicating it to the target audience (i.e. emergency responders, workers, consumers, transport workers and so on).
The GHS classifies the hazards mainly as physical hazards, health hazards, and environmental hazards. These classifications have many sub-classifications based on many factors such as the impact of the hazard, the chemicals and their properties etc.

So I need to replace my laptop with a new keyboard. It's a PC model Pavilion DV4-1431us. The only one I found is on ebay and the site doesn't work. Is there anywhere else? Because I'm not sure if any keyboard labeled DV4 is compatible with my laptop.
