How can I built a simple analog clock with a motor of 50 rpm?
I will appreciate if the number of gears are kept to a minimal. The clock must include the three hands: seconds, minutes and hours.
The motor is geared up 5:6 ratio, to drive the seconds hand. It then does its 60RPM.
The seconds hand drives the minutes hand by a 60:1 reduction.
The minutes hand drives the hours hand by a further 12: 1 reduction.
That seems the most practical set of ratios.
If you seriously intend to actually build such a clock, I hope you have the resources necessary! The problem is that all 3 hand shafts must be concentric, so additional gears will need to be used to achieve this. One scheme is to us a double reduction for each reduction ratio, so the output can be made to turn back to concentric.
So for example, to gain 60:1 reduction, you might use a 20:1 reduction and a 3:1 reduction. (20 x 3) = 60.
