Leather Furniture Come In Different Grades
If you want to shop smart for leather furniture the first thing you must know is that it comes in different grades. Many people buy leather without knowing what they are getting. They don't have a clue about what they had just invested in. Maybe a lot of those people don't care or maybe they just trust to store or salesperson they are dealing with. When I shop for something I have to know every detail about it and see if I can get the best my money can buy. The best thing to get acquainted with first is the 4 different grades that leather comes in. The top of the line is Full grade, and then comes Top grade, followed by split grain and bonded leather.
Although full grain is the best type of leather it is considered very eloquent and also delicate. You can use this type of leather if you know you wouldn't be getting it dirty or damaged at all. Furniture made with full grain leather should not be used heavily. It should be used very lightly and treated as delicately as silk. Think of it as something you can have but is really just for show than it is for sitting on.
Top grain leather is also another amazing type of leather that is just a small step under the first grade. This is better if you will be using your furniture everyday. Top grain leather is a better option if you use your furniture more often. You still should avoid having food or drinks on this type of leather.
If you want to have a lot of fun in your living room with your leather furniture set you can if you get the split grain leather. Split grain is much cheaper than the higher grade but ironically will wear better especially if you are feasting on them. If you get the ones that look a little shiny they will be very simple to clean.
If you happen to run into furniture that says it is made from bonded leather you should turn away because it is the poorest quality. If you want to get what the average family has then you can simply get the most affordable one which is the split grain. It will offer you quality and durability. Most people are satisfied with this type. When you are shopping you will recognize split grain when they say genuine leather.

Yes, bonded leather is not as durable -- it is split hide backed with vinyl. Vinyl doesn't breath like solid leather and also doesn't stretch so the material tends to wear out rather than mold to your body plus the two layers will start to separate at any stitched areas and crack. The best choice for a lower budget would be a sofa with bonded leather on the non-seating surfaces (back and sides) but full grain leather on the seat and back where people's bodies will be contacting it.
